Genesis 26 & 27

We are disappointed to read of Isaac showing the same lack of courage as his father.  There is a collective groan when he deceives Abimelech and puts his wife in danger through his lack of courage.  And yet God continues to show that his promises are unstoppable and that he is indeed in control even in a world full of weak followers!

And in chapter 27 we come face to face with more family dysfunction.  In spite of it all, God’s sovereign will shall prevail.  God is the God who elects, and the younger shall indeed serve the older (Genesis 25:23).  At times it appears that God accomplishes his will in spite of our weaknesses (Genesis 26).  At other times it appears that God accomplishes his will through those very weaknesses (Genesis 27).  Both are true!
